Musicians dESH.DUBS and Ave Lynn have released a new collaborative single titled “Détente,” a cross-genre production that blends reggae, neo-soul, and Afrobeats influences.
The collaboration between the two artists began after an unplanned meeting at a live showcase. Ave Lynn said that their first interaction occurred when she was invited on stage during dESH.DUBS’ performance.
“I met Desh at a live showcase. The organiser invited me on stage to improvise when Desh was doing his set. That was our first encounter, but I could feel the synergy. The magic of that moment is what sparked our first collaboration,” she said.
According to the artists, the single explores themes of reconciliation, emotional growth, and stability. dESH.DUBS said the title reflects the central message of the song. “‘Détente’ is about finding peace after conflict… in love, in life, and within ourselves,” he said.
The song, now available on all major streaming platforms worldwide, addresses the experience of navigating tension within relationships and the process of rebuilding understanding and balance.
The record features Ave Lynn’s vocal performance alongside dESH.DUBS’ lyrical delivery. The artists describe the work as a fusion of cultural and musical influences that results in a cohesive sound.
The collaboration was also shaped by their individual creative approaches, with both artists indicating that the project was informed by their shared interest in storytelling through music.
dESH.DUBS said the collaboration influenced the emotional direction of the record. “Collaborating with Ave Lynn brought that message to life with warmth and authenticity,” he stated.
Ave Lynn, whose birth name is Evelien Scheers, has performed at venues including GelreDome and Tivoli and has made appearances on Dutch Radio 3FM. Her debut EP, Unfolding Stories – Chapter One, released in 2024, introduced her musical style, which incorporates elements of Neo-Soul, Jazz, and Hip-Hop. She later released Fragments of Growth in 2025.
The project was produced by Jordan River Banks, who is known for his work with Killah Priest and has associations with the Wu-Tang music circle.
For dESH.DUBS, the release forms part of his ongoing work in expanding reggae beyond traditional formats by incorporating global sounds and contemporary themes. The collaboration with Ave Lynn contributes to this direction, with both artists indicating that the project focuses on shared themes of understanding, communication, and emotional clarity.
Détente has been described by the artists as a song that encourages reflection and connection, centred on the idea of calm after tension and the importance of restoring balance within relationships and within oneself.
