Kobby Amoah Esq says growing public frustration with corruption, weak accountability and political elitism is driving support for Kennedy Agyapong’s confrontational leadership style.
Speaking on the Asaase Breakfast Show on Wednesday (28 January), Amoah argued that Ghana has reached a point where many citizens are no longer inspired by polished rhetoric, elite credentials or technocratic leadership.
“Ghanaians are getting tired of perfect English, perfect suits and Harvard-trained leaders who don’t deliver results,” he said.
He claimed that Agyapong’s blunt style, often criticised as aggressive, is increasingly being interpreted by delegates as fearlessness and decisiveness — qualities he said are needed at this stage of the country’s development.
Amoah linked this sentiment to wider regional trends, citing the popularity of leaders perceived as disciplined and disruptive, including Burkina Faso’s military leader, who received loud applause during President John Mahama’s inauguration.
He also defended Agyapong against calls for him to apologise to Mahamudu Bawumia over comments made during the campaign, arguing that the former vice president bears responsibility for correcting what he described as repeated historical distortions made by members of his campaign team.
“As a leader, if falsehoods are being repeated in your presence and you don’t correct them, then you are complicit,” Amoah said.
He maintained that despite controversies surrounding Agyapong’s temperament, delegates are increasingly focused on what he can deliver, rather than his personal flaws.
“The people are asking one question now: what can he do for us?” he said.
