Salam Mustapha, the NPP National Youth Organiser, has assured TESCON members that all eligible delegates will have the opportunity to vote in the party’s primaries, dismissing claims of disenfranchisement as “a storm in a teacup.”
Speaking on the Asaase Breakfast Show on Monday (26 January), Mustapha explained that the compilation of TESCON delegates’ lists is a complex process managed by regional coordinators, not by the national office in Accra.
He defended the use of appointments in some campuses, citing logistical challenges in running elections across approximately 300 TESCON institutions.
“If elections cannot be conducted due to calendar differences or resource limitations, appointments are valid under our rules,” he said, adding that every appointed or elected TESCON executive is vetted to ensure legitimacy.
Mustapha also addressed allegations of favoritism toward certain candidates, emphasizing that the process is transparent and follows the established rules.
“TESCON will vote to the last man. There is no ambiguity, and any errors are addressed to maintain credibility,” he stated.
He further highlighted the financial and logistical efforts he has personally made to sustain TESCON activities, including using his own resources to support student programs and ensure continuity of the youth wing’s operations.
