President John Dramani Mahama will on 22 January 2026 lead a high-level international dialogue on the Accra Reset initiative on the margins of the World Economic Forum (WEF) Annual Meeting in Davos, Switzerland.
The event will bring together serving and former world leaders from Africa and other parts of the Global South to discuss new approaches to global cooperation and the strengthening of sovereign governance in the face of growing geopolitical, economic, and climate challenges.
A statement issued by the Presidency said the President will participate in the meeting in his capacity as Chair of the Presidential Council of the Accra Reset, an initiative aimed at rethinking the current global order and promoting fairer partnerships among nations.
The gathering is expected to attract current African leaders, including President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi of Egypt, President William Ruto of Kenya, and President Félix Tshisekedi of the Democratic Republic of Congo. Nigeria will be represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, while Prime Minister James Marape will attend on behalf of Papua New Guinea.
The meeting will also feature former leaders who serve on the Guardians Circle of the Accra Reset, among them former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo, former New Zealand Prime Minister Helen Clark, former Mauritian President Ameenah Gurib-Fakim, and former Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf.
According to the statement, the Davos engagement will mark the launch of key priority programmes under the Accra Reset framework. The initiative was first introduced at the 2025 United Nations General Assembly and later received endorsement at the G20 Leaders’ Summit in Johannesburg.
The Presidency noted that the Accra Reset has emerged in response to mounting global pressures, including worsening climate impacts, economic instability, rising debt burdens, geopolitical tensions, and declining confidence in existing multilateral systems.
President Mahama is said to view the initiative as complementary to his domestic agenda of institutional reform, arguing that national development must be supported by a more equitable and responsive global system.
