The campaign team of Dr Bryan Acheampong has rejected claims that the NPP presidential aspirant failed to financially support the party, insisting that his approach prioritises grassroots empowerment rather than elite patronage.
Speaking on Asaase Breakfast Show on Wednesday (21 January), campaign spokesperson Akwasi Agyeman said Acheampong has been a long-standing contributor to the party, dating back to the 1990s, and has consistently supported polling station executives directly.
“The votes are not on TV or in Parliament. The votes are at the polling stations,” he said.
Agyeman cited Acheampong’s role in resourcing party structures in the Eastern Region during the 2024 elections, arguing that direct support to grassroots operatives enhanced trust in his leadership.
He dismissed suggestions that Acheampong is politically cautious, describing his posture as one of maturity and party loyalty.
“He has said clearly that even if he loses, he will support whoever wins,” Agyeman said. “That is not weakness. That is leadership.”
He added that Acheampong’s willingness to sign the party’s peace pact and his refusal to attack rivals publicly positions him as the most credible unifier after what is expected to be a bruising primary.
