The Member of Parliament for New Juaben North, Nana Osei Adjei, has called on persons with disabilities to change their mindset towards life and remain motivated despite their challenges.
He made the call during an end-of-year get-together organized by the New Juaben North Branch of the Ghana Federation of Persons with Disabilities at Effiduase in the Eastern Region.
According to him, some persons with disabilities feel that life has come to an end because of their condition, a perception he believes must change.
As part of the event, Nana Osei Adjei donated 30 bags of rice to support the group.
The Municipal Chief Executive for New Juaben North, Samuel Adongo, also contributed cooking oil, mackerel, and canned tomatoes.
“What remains crucial is helping persons with disabilities to change their mindset through motivation and empowerment,” he said
He announced plans to organise symposiums and workshops aimed at building confidence and skills among members of the federation.
“And when we are done with the symposium the next step is financing and as the Member of Parliament am going to look for financial for them,” Nana Osei Adjei noted.
The Municipal Chief Executive, Samuel Adongo, on his part, urged parents and guardians of persons with disabilities to prioritize the education of their wards.
He stressed that being disabled does not mean one’s children should be allowed to loiter without formal education.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of the New Juaben North Branch of the Ghana Federation of Persons with Disabilities, Kofi Sarpong Boateng, raised concerns about the disbursement of the Disability Common Fund.
He alleged that some Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies do not follow the laid-down procedures.
He therefore appealed to the Ministry of Local Government to ensure that complaints from the federation are addressed and enforced.
