Four people have been confirmed dead while five others were critically injured on Saturday after a construction truck carrying sand lost control and crashed into a hairdressing shop at Kumawu in the Ashanti Region.
Asaase News gathers that the truck’s brakes failed, causing the driver to lose control and hit the roadside shop at Zongo Junction, a busy area in the district.
The injured victims were rushed to a local hospital for for emergency treatment.
MP mourns
Hon. Ernest Yaw Anim, Member of Parliament for Kumawu and Chairman of Parliament’s Human Rights Committee, visited the accident site and hospital on Sunday.
In a statement, he expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and wished the injured a full recovery.
Anim called on government agencies, private organisations, and members of the public to provide support, including financial assistance, medical care, and emotional guidance.
“We must stand together as a united community in compassion and solidarity,” he said, pledging his commitment to help the affected families navigate this difficult period.
Probe
The cause of the crash is being investigated. Emergency services responded promptly to the scene, and local authorities are coordinating relief for victims and families.
No official comment was immediately available from the construction company that owned the truck.
