Political marketing strategist Bernard Tutu-Boahene has described the NPP’s early presidential primaries as a bold but potentially beneficial strategy, provided the process strengthens unity rather than personal dominance.
Speaking on TownHall Talk on Friday (16 January), Tutu-Boahene said political parties must innovate after electoral losses, adding that early primaries could give the eventual flagbearer sufficient time to rebuild trust across factions.
“If done well, early congress allows the party to rally behind one leader and begin genuine reconciliation,” he noted.
However, he cautioned against allowing personalities to overshadow party structures, arguing that strong institutions—not individuals—should anchor democratic parties.
“When parties rely on strong men instead of strong systems, they create long-term instability,” he warned.
Tutu-Boahene also emphasised that unity must begin even before the primaries, urging aspirants to engage each other constructively to prevent post-election bitterness.
“The moment you win but cannot unite the party, you’ve already lost momentum,” he said.
He concluded that while the NPP’s approach was unconventional, its success would ultimately depend on fairness, transparency, and the willingness of all contenders to place party cohesion above personal ambition.
