New Asante Mamponghene to take oath before Asantehene on 19 January

Leslie Nkansa Osei-Bonsu, the successor to the late Daasebre Osei Bonsu II, will formally swear allegiance to Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, on 19 January, completing his enstoolment as the new Asante Mamponghene.

The announcement followed a visit by the kingmakers, the queen, and the nominee to Manhyia Palace in Kumasi on Monday, during which they informed the Asantehene that all traditional rites had been successfully completed.

The oath of allegiance will grant Osei-Bonsu the authority to assume his chieftaincy role in accordance with Asante tradition.

Osei-Bonsu, a senior software architect and geospatial systems strategist, brings over 20 years of experience in leading complex software projects across Europe and Africa.

He holds advanced degrees in Computational Science and Geo-Information Science, as well as a First Class B.Sc. in Geomatic Engineering.

Currently, he serves as Product and Service Group Manager at GAF AG in Germany, overseeing multidisciplinary teams delivering ISO-compliant software solutions.

A native of the Botaase Royal Family of Asante Mampong, Osei-Bonsu’s leadership experience spans early roles as Assistant School Prefect at Prempeh College and President of its Old Students Association (KNUST Chapter), reflecting a lifelong commitment to mentorship and team development. Fluent in English, Twi, and German, he is also a certified Scrum Master and Product Owner, and a member of IEEE and ACM.

The Asante Mampong Traditional Council said the formal swearing-in will take place during the next Asanteman Council sitting, where the Asantehene will grant the nominee the customary authority to lead.
