The National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) has arrested 10 suspected illegal miners and seized six excavators during a special operation in Bunso in the Eastern Region.
The raid, carried out by a joint security task force, targeted several illegal mining sites operating along river bodies and forested areas.
According to NAIMOS officials, the suspects were engaged in unauthorised mining activities that were causing severe environmental damage.
The six excavators, believed to have been used for galamsey operations, were impounded as part of the operation. Other mining equipment was also seized at the sites.
The suspects are currently in custody and are expected to be processed for court as investigations continue.
NAiMOS said the operation forms part of ongoing efforts by the government to clamp down on illegal mining, protect water bodies, and restore degraded lands across the country.
