Eric Amoako Twum says the NPP must move beyond sentiment, historical precedent, and personality politics if it hopes to reclaim power in the 2028 general election.
Responding to arguments that past presidential candidates required multiple attempts before winning, Amoako Twum said such reasoning holds little relevance for today’s electorate, nearly 70 per cent of whom will be between 18 and 35 years old.
“Young people are not voting based on history. They are voting based on jobs, governance, innovation, and opportunity,” he said on the Asaase Breakfast Show on Monday (12 January).
He argued that Brian Acheampong’s mix of business success, academic credentials, and public service experience uniquely positions him to appeal to this demographic, citing his track record in agriculture, national security, infrastructure, technology, and entrepreneurship.
According to him, Acheampong’s message to delegates centres on unity, discipline, and direct benefits to party workers, alongside a broader vision for food security, digital transformation, infrastructure expansion, and national stability.
Amoako Twum dismissed speculation about rival candidates as a distraction, insisting that the campaign’s “biggest threat is ourselves” and stressing the importance of organisation and election-day operations.
He said the campaign is not guided by prophecies or public polls but by internal assessments and grassroots engagement, expressing confidence that Acheampong’s record gives him credibility with both delegates and the wider electorate.
“If he says he can do it, there is evidence you can touch,” he said.
