The New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential aspirant Ken Ohene Agyapong is poised to win the party’s flagbearer contest on 31 January, according to Rocky Jojo Obeng, director of elections for the campaign.
Speaking on the Asaase Breakfast Show on Thursday (8 January) Obeng dismissed recent opinion polls that placed other candidates ahead, insisting that the team’s internal assessments and past experiences indicate a clear victory for Ojine-Japon.
“Ken Ohene-Agyapong has run before against the establishment and exceeded expectations. In 2023, he secured 37.4% of the vote when polls predicted less than 10%. That track record, combined with careful delegate engagement, shows he is the frontrunner,” Obeng said.
He also highlighted Ohene-Agyapong’s professional background, noting his experience in private sector leadership and job creation.
“The number one issue for Ghanaian households is employment. Ken has created over 7,000 jobs across multiple sectors. That experience and integrity resonate strongly with delegates,” he said.
Obeng emphasised that Ohene-Agyapong’s campaign is focused on delegates’ priorities and is committed to running a fair and peaceful internal election. “Our message is about hope, transformation, and trust. Delegates have bought into this vision, and we expect a decisive win on January 31,” he added.
The campaign director also called on the Electoral Commission of Ghana and the Ghana Police Service to ensure the primary is conducted transparently across all 277 polling centres, noting that previous experiences offer lessons for maintaining a credible process.
