Fredrick Opare-Ansah has accused supporters of Kennedy Agyapong of deliberately stoking tension within the NPP by spreading allegations of election rigging ahead of the party’s 31 January primaries.
The Bawumia campaign manager said on the Asaase Breakfast Show on Tuesday (6 January) that claims of stuffed ballot boxes are “reckless” and “dangerous,” noting that ballot papers for the election have not even been printed.
“What ballot papers have been stuffed into which ballot box?” he asked.
Opare-Ansah criticised accusations against the party’s General Secretary and members of the Presidential Election Committee, describing them as part of a coordinated attempt to delegitimise the process.
He also questioned the logic behind forming so-called “anti-rigging squads,” arguing that the surest path to victory is direct engagement with delegates.
“This is a delegates’ election. The path is to go constituency by constituency and talk to the people who will vote,” he said.
On calls for a flagbearer debate, Opare-Ansah said such debates are less relevant in a delegates’ election, insisting that aspirants should prioritise meeting delegates face-to-face rather than staging media events.
He also dismissed the impact of headlines about rousing welcomes and clergy endorsements, warning that such displays can be misleading.
“Rousing welcomes don’t always translate into votes. Delegates are more sophisticated than that,” he said.
Despite acknowledging rising hostility among supporters, Opare-Ansah called for early intervention to prevent lasting divisions within the party.
“You don’t wait for a response before calling for peace. You nip these things in the bud,” he cautioned.
