A resident pastor of the Calvary Charismatic Center (CCC), Reverend Joshua Obeng has called for what he described as higher-quality leadership across government and public institutions, arguing that effective governance is critical to national development.
He says Ghana’s progress depended largely on the calibre of leaders appointed to manage state institutions.
“Development thrives where quality leadership resides,” Obeng told journalists on Tuesday on the sidelines of the church’s 31st Watch Night Service at its Ayigya branch in Kumasi.
He urged public officials to deliver what he termed “excellence” in service to the population, adding that a national turnaround would require visionary and accountable leadership.
Crucial role
Obeng also encouraged Christians to play a more active role in governance, saying leadership positions offered an opportunity to apply values drawn from the teachings of Christ to public administration.
“Christians who have studied the leadership traits of Christ should assert themselves in positions of trust to drive transformation,” he said.
Looking ahead to 2026, Obeng expressed optimism but cautioned that religious faith alone would not deliver progress. He said divine favour must be matched by hard work and personal responsibility.
“God provides opportunities for new beginnings, but we must be willing to work to see the results we pray for,” he said.
Early efforts
Commenting on national politics, Obeng welcomed what he described as early efforts by the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) and urged President John Dramani Mahama to remain committed to the policies that secured him electoral support.
He also offered condolences to families affected by recent fire outbreaks and deaths, reaffirming the church’s commitment to supporting victims.
The service concluded with a sermon and benediction by Reverend Ransford Obeng, General Overseer of CCC, who told congregants that 2026 would be a year of progress if they remained steadfast and focused.
The event was attended by church members and local leaders, including Oforikrom Member of Parliament Michael Kwasi Aidoo.
