Court orders destruction of seized narcotics in Eastern Region

A total of 10,833 parcels of narcotic substances have been destroyed at the Koforidua dumping site in the Eastern Region, in accordance with Section 108 of the Narcotics Control Commission Act, 2020 (Act 1019).

The destruction followed court orders issued on 5th May 2026 in separate narcotics-related cases before the Koforidua Circuit Court.

In a case involving Ayertey Raphael Wilson and Samuel Tettey, the accused persons were charged with conspiracy to commit crime, namely possession of narcotic drugs for trafficking without lawful authority, contrary to Section 23(1) of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29) and Section 37(1) of the Narcotics Control Commission Act, 2020 (Act 1019), alongside three other related charges.

The accused persons were subsequently convicted pursuant to a Plea Bargaining Agreement filed on 28th April 2026.

Following the Court’s order, 150 sacks of narcotic substances were destroyed.

The exhibits consisted of
76 sacks of cannabis seized from a truck with registration number GN 993-14
74 sacks of cannabis seized from a truck with registration number GG 3674-20

Each sack contained 70 parcels of narcotic substances, bringing the total number of parcels destroyed in that case to 10,500.
In a separate case involving Innocent Klokofi, an additional 333 parcels of cannabis were destroyed pursuant to the Court’s order dated 5th May 2026.

The destruction exercise was conducted at the Koforidua dumping site in the presence of representatives from the Ghana Police Service, Narcotics Control Commission, Attorney-General’s Department, counsel for the accused persons, the media, and other stakeholders.
