The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor, has underscored the critical role of reliable and affordable energy in driving Africa’s industrialisation and long-term economic transformation.
Speaking at the 3rd Africa Energy Technology Conference 2026 in Accra on Tuesday, 19 May 2026, Jinapor said Africa must shift from merely exporting raw materials to becoming a continent that adds value through industrial growth, technology, and strategic energy investments.
According to him, Africa possesses the resources and market potential needed to become a global industrial powerhouse, especially with the opportunities created by the African Continental Free Trade Area.
“With our abundant natural resources, growing population, and expanding markets under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), Africa has every opportunity to become a global industrial powerhouse, but this will require bold leadership, regional cooperation, and long-term investment in energy infrastructure,” he stated.
Jinapor further highlighted Ghana’s efforts to strengthen energy security while advancing the transition to cleaner and more sustainable energy sources.
He noted that the government is pursuing key initiatives such as expanding renewable energy deployment, investing in battery storage systems, mini-grid electrification, gas-to-power modernisation, and preparations toward nuclear energy development.
The minister stressed that strategic investment in energy infrastructure remains essential to unlocking industrial growth, innovation, and economic opportunities across the continent.
