Some members of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Tarkwa-Nsuaem constituency of the Western Region, plan to stage a demonstration on 21 May, over alleged irregularities in the party’s internal election, organisers said in a statement.
The group said the protest would highlight what it described as flaws in the registration, nomination, vetting and polling station electoral processes.
In a statement signed by convener Ampoful Adu Narkaah, the members accused some constituency executives and their agents of manipulating the process and unfairly excluding or disqualifying party members.
They also alleged intimidation and bias during the exercises, adding that complaints submitted to regional party leadership had not been adequately addressed.
“The entire process within the constituency has been compromised,” the statement said.
The group said the situation risked undermining unity within the constituency ahead of the 2028 general election.
“As concerned members of the party, we believe that the NPP requires unity ahead of the 2028 general elections. However, unity cannot prevail amidst injustice, lack of transparency, intimidation, exclusion and unfair treatment,” it added.
The protesters are demanding the annulment of the polling station election results, an independent investigation into the process, and fresh elections supervised by the party’s national elections committee.
They said the demonstration will begin at UBAS Junction and end at Tarkwa Market Circle and will be peaceful and orderly.
