Ghanaian rapper Medikal has thrown his support behind Black Sherif following his Artiste of the Year win, describing the accolade as well deserved.
Speaking on Onua Showtime with host Nana Ama McBrown on Saturday, Medikal said he felt the same level of joy for Black Sherif’s victory as he would have if he had personally won the award.
He praised the award-winning artiste’s journey, highlighting the authenticity of his music and its reflection of lived experiences.
“If you listen to Blacko’s songs from day one, the content is about struggling and trying to make it, coming from the street. So he’s a street boy, blessed by God,” Medikal said.
Black Sherif, widely known for blending highlife, drill and trap elements, has built a reputation for storytelling centred on survival, ambition and resilience — themes Medikal said resonate strongly with audiences.
“So Blacko winning Artiste of the Year is equally deserving as me picking the plaque. The joy I would have felt if I had won was the same joy I felt when Blacko won… I’m happy for him,” he added.
The endorsement from Medikal underscores a moment of solidarity within Ghana’s music industry, as Black Sherif’s rise continues to draw recognition from peers and fans alike.
