Sagnarigu MCE calls for public support to accelerate development

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Sagnarigu, Abdulai Imoro Gong, has appealed to residents of the municipality to actively support government initiatives aimed at accelerating development across the area.

According to him, community participation and cooperation remain critical to ensuring the successful implementation and completion of development projects that will improve the living conditions of the people.

He made the appeal during the Sagnarigu Municipal Assembly’s maiden “Accounting to the People” forum held in Sagnarigu.

The forum forms part of an initiative introduced by the Northern Regional Coordinating Council (NRCC) to replicate the government’s “Resetting Agenda” stakeholder engagements across all Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies in the Northern Region.

Addressing participants, Gong explained that the engagement was intended to brief residents on the Assembly’s achievements, ongoing projects and interventions undertaken since 2025.

He noted that the Assembly had implemented several projects in sectors such as education, health, sanitation, roads, social welfare, security, youth empowerment and local economic development.

Gong acknowledged that although the Assembly continued to face some challenges, it had made significant progress in improving infrastructure and service delivery through collaboration with government agencies, development partners and community stakeholders.

He stressed that development should not be left solely in the hands of government officials, adding that residents also have an important role to play by supporting and protecting projects within their communities.

He further reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to transparency, accountability and responsive governance.

The Northern Regional Minister, Ali Adolf John Mburidiba, who also addressed the gathering, underscored the importance of citizen participation, transparency and accountability in governance.

He explained that the stakeholder engagement initiative was designed to build trust between government and citizens while creating a platform for assemblies to account for their activities and receive feedback from the public.

Mburidiba stated that the initiative was inspired by President John Dramani Mahama’s “Resetting Ghana Agenda,” which seeks to bring governance closer to the people and promote inclusive development through active public participation.
