IGP sends anti-armed robbery unit after violent attacks in Atebubu and Nasia areas

The police have deployed intelligence and anti-robbery units to the Bono East and Northern regions following two separate armed attacks that left at least four people dead and several others injured, authorities said on Sunday.

The Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno, sent personnel from the Police Intelligence Directorate and the Anti-Armed Robbery Unit to support ongoing operations and lead manhunts for the attackers, the Ghana Police Service said in a statement.

The first attack occurred near Sampa in the Atebubu District, where armed men stormed a fuel station, killing two people and injuring others while robbing the facility of cash, police said.

In a separate incident the same day, gunmen ambushed a passenger bus along the Bolgatanga–Tamale highway near Nasia, killing two passengers and injuring several others after opening fire on the vehicle.

Police said they have intensified armed patrols in the affected areas and are pursuing leads to arrest those responsible.

“We assure the public that the perpetrators will be arrested to face the full rigours of the law,” the statement said.

Armed robberies and highway ambushes have remained a security concern in parts of northern Ghana, particularly on long-distance transport routes.
