A newborn baby has been rescued after being found abandoned in a bush at Dechimso-Hafia in the Manhyia South Municipality of the Ashanti Region, prompting police investigations and renewed concern about child welfare in the area.
The infant was discovered on Sunday by residents, who immediately alerted authorities. The baby was subsequently rushed to the Manhyia Government Hospital for emergency medical care.
The Assembly Member for the area, Ahenkan Baako, confirmed the incident, saying the child is currently receiving treatment while efforts are underway to trace the mother.
“We have taken the baby to the Manhyia Government Hospital for further assessment,” he stated.
He added that security agencies have launched investigations to identify and arrest the person responsible for abandoning the newborn.
Police say they are following leads and have appealed to residents of Dechimso-Hafia and nearby communities to provide any information that could assist in the investigation.
The incident has caused concern among residents, with some calling for stronger community surveillance and improved social support systems to prevent similar cases.
Authorities have not yet disclosed the baby’s condition but say medical personnel are monitoring the infant closely at the hospital.
Investigations are ongoing.
