Ghanaian businessman Richard Nii Armah Quaye has denied allegations that he physically abused his ex-wife, describing the claims as unfounded and part of what he calls a deliberate attempt to tarnish his reputation.
Speaking in an interview with media personality Deloris Frimpong Manso on The Delay Show, Quaye rejected widely circulated accusations that he assaulted his former spouse, identified as Joana.
“I can’t even beat my children, not to even beat my wife. I have never beaten my wife before,” he said.
The allegations have gained traction online, fuelled in part by a viral video purportedly linked to the claims. Quaye, however, questioned both the authenticity and intent of the footage, insisting it does not implicate him.
“I have seen that video circulating, which talks about me beating my wife, and, as I said, there is a clear agenda against me. I don’t know where they got that video from,” he said.
Casting doubt on the credibility of the video, Quaye argued that digital manipulation has made it easier to mislead audiences.
“In today’s world, people can even do makeup that looks like someone has been beaten. She may have had an encounter with someone and gotten a swollen face and used it in a video. Because you see, that purported video people believe in, I did not appear in it,” he added.
He also criticised what he described as the public’s readiness to draw conclusions without verification.
“I keep watching the video and I ask myself, does it mean anyone who comes to make allegations about me would be believed? How can we live in a society like this? This is cruelty. Anyone who believed that video and concluded I was responsible has done a great injustice to me,” he said.
Quaye maintains that the allegations are baseless and has called for a more critical, fact-based approach in assessing such claims.
