The National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has urged party supporters to remain loyal and avoid making politically consequential decisions out of frustration over unmet expectations, particularly regarding the allocation of contracts.
Speaking during his thank-you tour in Nandom in the Upper West Region on Friday, 24 April, Asiedu Nketia acknowledged concerns among party faithful who feel sidelined in the distribution of government opportunities.
He noted, however, that the number of contracts available in the country is limited and cannot meet the demands of all party members.
“If we bring all the contracts available in Ghana, it will not be able to satisfy all the contractors,” he said, calling for patience among supporters.
‘Stay the course’
Asiedu Nketia stressed that maintaining the party’s hold on power offers the most reliable pathway for members to eventually benefit from opportunities.
According to him, political stability under the NDC increases the chances that those who have not yet benefited may do so in the future.
He cautioned supporters against defecting to the opposition, arguing that doing so may not guarantee better outcomes.
“What you are asking today, and we are not able to provide, are you sure you will get it when they come to power?” he asked, referencing the New Patriotic Party.
Managing expectations
The remarks come amid growing discussions within party ranks over access to government contracts and appointments, an issue that often surfaces following electoral victories.
Asiedu Nketia’s comments underscore the challenge of managing expectations within political parties, particularly when demand for state-linked opportunities far exceeds supply.
He urged members to prioritise party unity and long-term political strategy over short-term frustrations.
