Meta to train AI models using employees’ mouse movements and keystrokes

Meta is turning to an unusual new source of data to train its artificial intelligence systems using its own employees.

The company plans to use information generated from staff interactions with computers, including mouse movements and keyboard activity, to help develop more capable AI models.

The development, first reported by Reuters, highlights the increasing competition among technology firms to secure fresh training data, which is essential for improving how AI systems understand and respond to user prompts.

According to Meta, the approach is intended to help build AI agents that can better perform everyday digital tasks by learning from real human behaviour, such as clicking buttons, navigating menus and interacting with software interfaces.

A Meta spokesperson explained that the company is developing an internal tool to capture these interactions on selected applications strictly for training purposes.

The spokesperson added that safeguards have been put in place to protect sensitive information, and stressed that the data will not be used for any other purpose beyond AI development.

The move reflects a growing trend in the AI industry, where companies are increasingly exploring unconventional datasets to improve model performance.

It also raises fresh concerns about privacy and workplace data usage, as firms expand beyond traditional data sources into internal corporate activity.
