The Association of Market Queen Mothers has urged traders in the Ashanti Region to exercise patience over delays in the completion of Phase Two of the Kejetia Market project, warning against mounting pressure on the government.
Speaking at a media briefing in Kumasi on Wednesday (22 April), Queen Mother for Dry Fish Sellers, Grace Agyei Darko, said authorities had assured market leaders that work on the project would be completed alongside other market infrastructure in the city.
She said the government had also pledged to complete the Krofrom Market to help ease congestion in Kumasi’s Central Business District.
“We are very grateful to President Mahama for completing Phase One of the Kejetia Market. We will continue to pray for him and his wife because they have greatly supported Asanteman, especially the traders,” she said.
Darko also credited earlier market projects to the former National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration, while accusing the previous New Patriotic Party (NPP) government of failing to complete Phase Two of Kejetia and the Krofrom Market during its tenure.
She called on traders to remain calm, insisting that ongoing efforts would address infrastructure gaps and improve trading conditions in the regional capital.
