IGP promotes seven officers for bravery in Tema anti-robbery operation

The Inspector-General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has promoted seven officers of the Ghana Police Service in recognition of their role in a recent anti-robbery operation in Tema.

The officers, all drawn from the Tema Regional Police Command, were elevated following their response to a robbery attack on a mobile money vendor at Tema Community 5. The operation led to the shooting of two suspected robbers and the recovery of a firearm, ammunition, and other exhibits.

The officers promoted are Chief Inspector Enoch Nartey Nuer, Inspector Gershon Dekpey, Inspector Prince Asante, Sergeant Lukman Mohammed, Sergeant Eugene Kuudouru, Corporal Jerome Akator, and Lance Corporal Jonathan Sewurah.

The promotions were announced on April 14, 2026, with the IGP and members of the Police Management Board commending the officers for what was described as courage, discipline, and dedication to duty.

The IGP urged the newly promoted officers to view their elevation as a call to higher responsibility and to maintain professionalism in the discharge of their duties. He also encouraged other personnel across the service to remain committed to protecting lives and property, noting that exemplary performance would continue to be recognised.

The commendation comes amid heightened police operations in parts of Tema, following rising concerns over armed robbery incidents, particularly attacks targeting mobile money vendors.

The Ghana Police Service reaffirmed its commitment to proactive policing and rapid response measures aimed at strengthening public safety and reducing violent crime.
