The Ghana Police Service has arrested a security guard with the University of Ghana following a viral video that captured him assaulting an individual.
The suspect, identified as Ebenezer Annor Darko, was picked up by the Inspector-General of Police’s Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team (CVET) after the footage sparked public outrage online.
According to police, the suspect is currently in custody and assisting with ongoing investigations into the incident.
Authorities have not yet disclosed the circumstances leading to the assault or the condition of the victim but say further updates will be communicated to the public as investigations progress.
The Police Service also used the opportunity to caution the public against taking the law into their own hands, urging citizens to exercise restraint and adhere to due process when dealing with suspected offenders.
The case adds to growing concerns over the conduct of private security personnel and the increasing role of social media in exposing incidents of alleged misconduct.
