University of Ghana hails Artemis II mission, celebrates alumna Christina Koch

The University of Ghana has congratulated the crew of NASA’s Artemis II Mission following the successful completion of their landmark journey, describing it as a major milestone in global space exploration.

The University also gave special recognition to astronaut Christina Koch, a former exchange student of the institution during the 1999/2000 academic year.

Koch, who studied electrical engineering and physics at North Carolina State University, spent part of her academic training in Ghana under an international exchange programme.

The University says her journey from an exchange student in Accra to a key figure in a major NASA mission reflects the value of international academic exposure and collaboration.

Over the years, the University of Ghana says it has expanded its internationalisation agenda through student exchange programmes, partnerships and summer schools, attracting students from across the world while also creating opportunities for Ghanaian students abroad.

Management says achievements such as the Artemis II Mission continue to inspire efforts to strengthen science, technology and engineering programmes at the university.

There are also ongoing discussions about expanding academic offerings in space science and related fields to prepare students for future careers in emerging scientific disciplines.

The University says such initiatives are aimed at positioning Ghanaian students to contribute meaningfully to global advances in science and innovation.

It congratulated the Artemis II crew once again, saying their achievement will inspire future generations in Ghana, Africa and beyond.
