The Member of Parliament for Tamale Central, Professor Seidu Mahama Alidu, has distributed a range of tools and start-up kits to support small-scale businesses in the constituency.
The initiative, carried out in collaboration with the Ghana Enterprises Agency (GEA), forms part of efforts to empower local artisans and promote youth entrepreneurship. It is also aligned with the Reset Agenda of His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, which seeks to create opportunities for economic growth and self-reliance.
Speaking at the event, Seidu Mahama Alidu emphasised that the role of government is to create an enabling environment where entrepreneurs are willing to take risks and are able to earn returns on their investments. He noted that supporting small-scale businesses remains key to reducing unemployment and stimulating local economic development, especially among the youth in Tamale Central.
As part of the intervention, beneficiaries received a variety of equipment designed to help them establish and expand their trades. These included sewing machines, hairdryers, welding equipment, and many others.
The distribution is expected to enhance skills training and provide practical means for artisans to operate sustainably.
The MP urged beneficiaries to take proper care of the equipment to ensure its longevity and maximize its impact.
He also encouraged young people in the constituency to take advantage of such opportunities whenever they arise, stressing that skills development and entrepreneurship are vital pathways to financial independence.
Some of the beneficiaries, who spoke to Asaase Radio, expressed their gratitude for the support. They described the intervention as timely and transformative, noting that the tools provided would significantly improve their productivity and help them build stable livelihoods.
