E&P deploys 30 heavy-duty trucks to boost Tarkwa mining operations

Indigenous Ghanaian mining firm Engineers and Planners Co. Ltd. (E&P) has dispatched 30 semi-knockdown Caterpillar 785D dump trucks to its operational base in Tarkwa as part of efforts to strengthen haulage capacity and operational efficiency.

The delivery represents the final batch of a broader order of high-capacity dump trucks aimed at expanding the company’s fleet and improving turnaround times at its mining site.

“The phased deployment of this equipment reflects a strategic effort to scale up fleet capacity and enhance efficiency in mining operations,” E&P said in a statement.

The Caterpillar 785D dump truck is a key asset in large-scale surface mining, designed for high productivity in material haulage. Its addition is expected to improve throughput and operational performance at the Tarkwa site.

E&P has a history of significant investment in Ghana’s mining sector, beginning in 2002. In 2018, the company committed an estimated $650 million to operations at Tarkwa and Damang Mines, with plans to invest around $1.2 billion in future expansions.

The deployment highlights continued capital inflows into Ghana’s mining industry, which remains attractive to both local and international investors due to rich mineral reserves, strong global demand, and a relatively stable regulatory environment.

Beyond equipment acquisition, mining firms are increasingly investing in infrastructure, workforce training, and technology to boost productivity and resilience.

E&P’s latest delivery reinforces the scale of investment required to remain competitive in Ghana’s mining sector and is expected to support increased production at Tarkwa, one of the country’s key mining hubs.
