Mining giant Newmont Corporation has announced a total fiscal contribution of GH₵12.822 billion to the Government of Ghana for the 2025 financial year, reaffirming its position as one of the country’s foremost drivers of domestic revenue mobilisation.
The payments, made to key state institutions including the Ghana Revenue Authority, Forestry Commission and the Ministry of Finance, reflect the company’s substantial footprint in Ghana’s extractive sector.
A breakdown of the full-year contribution shows Corporate Tax accounting for GH₵5.382 billion, followed by Capital Gains Tax of GHC3.025 billion arising from the sale of its Akyem Mine in April 2025. Mineral Royalties amounted to GHC1.628 billion, while Carried Interest stood at GH₵1.832 billion.
Additional statutory payments included GHC514 million in Pay-As-You-Earn (PAYE) taxes, GHC434 million in Withholding Tax, GHC15 million as Forestry Levy, and GHC2 million in Property Rates.
Beyond its fiscal contributions, Newmont says it continues to invest strategically in Ghana’s long-term socio-economic development through infrastructure, environmental sustainability, and community-focused initiatives.
Among its flagship interventions in 2025 is a partnership with the Ministry of Roads and Highways to rehabilitate the 46-kilometre Sunyani–Ntotroso–Akyerensua highway—a vital transport corridor linking the Bono and Ahafo regions.
The project is expected to enhance road safety, improve connectivity, and stimulate economic activity in communities along the stretch.
The company also lent support to the national “Tree for Life” initiative, an environmental programme aimed at restoring degraded lands, reviving forest ecosystems, and promoting sustainable land use.
Commenting on the company’s performance, Country Manager Danquah Addo-Yobo underscored Newmont’s commitment to transparency and responsible mining.
“Over the years, we have played a leading role in the mining industry not only in terms of fiscal contribution, but also through our environmental stewardship and the value we create for local businesses and communities,” he said.
“The promptness, accuracy, and public disclosure of our statutory payments underscore our strong and transparent governance principles.”
