Host communities of Zijin Golden Ridge Limited are set to benefit from a major infrastructure boost following a sod-cutting ceremony by the Zijin Akyem Development Foundation (ZADeF) at New Abirem in the Birim North District of the Eastern Region.
ZADeF, the corporate social responsibility arm of the company, focuses on infrastructure development, social interventions, human resource development, and economic empowerment within its host communities.
The ceremony, led by management of the Foundation, officially marked the commencement of 13 key infrastructure projects across the district.
The projects include the construction of football fields, as well as volleyball and netball courts, with panel mesh fencing at Afosu RC Basic School and Mamanso Presby Basic School. A high-level water storage facility will also be built at Afosu Islamic Basic School.
In New Abirem, three waste band walls will be constructed, along with concrete walkways and landscaping works at the Police Quarters.
Sanitation projects form a major component of the initiative.
These include a 10-seater WC washroom with ancillary facilities at Old Abirem, a two-bay urinal at Adausena Methodist Primary School, and the reconstruction of a school feeding building at the same school.
Additional projects include the renovation of a community centre at Hweakwae, and upgrades to the palm oil processing centre at Amanfrom, where chain-link fencing and two storage rooms will be constructed.
To support community engagement and healthcare delivery, ZADeF will also construct a durbar ground at Praso Kuma and a CHPS compound at Akrofonso.
The Chief Operating Officer of Zijin Golden Ridge Limited, Yufeng Li, noted that the projects are expected to significantly improve the lives of people in the beneficiary communities, stressing that true development is measured by its impact on livelihoods.
The Executive Secretary of ZADeF and Community Development Manager of the company, Samuel Ofosu Agyei, stated that the projects were carefully selected to address the priority needs of the communities.
He added that mechanisms have been put in place to ensure proper maintenance of the facilities.
The 13 projects, estimated at a cost of GH₵4.18 million, are expected to be completed within 14 months.
