The Coalition of Unemployed Graduates with Disabilities has called on the government to urgently address unemployment among persons with disabilities, warning that many qualified graduates have remained jobless for years.
Speaking at a joint press briefing in Accra, the group said the situation has left many of its members dependent on their families, despite existing legal protections under the Persons with Disability Act, 2006 (Act 715).
The briefing brought together key stakeholders including Yaw Ofori Debrah, former President of the Ghana Blind Union; Benjamin Annan, Youth Wing President of the Ghana Blind Union; Peter Obeng Asamoah, Director of the Ghana Blind Union; Daniel Oppong Lartey, Employment Committee Chairperson of the Ghana Federation of Disability Organisations; and Seidu Daana, former Minister for Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs.
According to the coalition, the narrative around persons with disabilities must shift from one focused on welfare to one that recognises their capabilities and contributions to national development.
The group revealed that it had earlier issued a one-month ultimatum to the government on 9 February 2026, demanding a clear and unbiased policy framework to address unemployment among graduates with disabilities.
They described the call as a practical step towards tackling what they say is a growing crisis affecting many educated persons with disabilities across the country.
As part of their next steps, the coalition announced plans to stage a nationwide demonstration on March 24 to press home their demands and push for inclusive employment opportunities.
