“We are not NPP, we will kill you one time” — Barker Vormawor alleges threats from NDC appointees

Lawyer and civic activist Oliver Barker-Vormawor has raised alarm over what he describes as hypocrisy and intimidation from some appointees of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC).

He alleges that he has been threatened for his activism.

In a post on his Facebook page on Wednesday, 18 March, Barker-Vormawor expressed surprise at how former critics of the previous New Patriotic Party (NPP) government — who once advised him to moderate his activism — have now become vocal critics under the current administration.

“Life is an interesting journey… what amuses me the most are some NDC appointees,” he wrote, recalling calls he received during the NDC’s time in opposition warning him to “stop my activism” because “Ghana is not worth the hustle… not worth dying for.”

Those same individuals, he claims, now hold positions in government and have shifted their tone dramatically. Some have even warned him that his activism could endanger his life.

“Some even say to me, ‘We, we are not NPP oo. If you try your things, we will kill you one time,’” he posted.

Barker-Vormawor, known for his work with the Democracy Hub and the #FixTheCountry movement, did not name the individuals involved but cautioned that such behaviour is deeply concerning in a democratic society.

His activism has frequently attracted public attention, with past controversies and confrontations with political authorities highlighting his role in pushing for accountability and governance reforms in Ghana.
