A court has remanded a woman into police custody over her alleged role in a robbery linked to a wider carjacking syndicate operating in the Ashanti Region.
The Asokwa Circuit Court 1 on Monday remanded Patricia Osei Boateng, also known as “Boatema”, after she was charged with abetment of crime to wit robbery, in connection with an incident at Ohwim Tigo Junction in Kumasi.
Her lawyer, Richard Acquah, applied for bail, but prosecutors opposed the request.
Presiding judge Fred Obikyere did not take her plea and ordered that she remain in custody until her next court appearance on 24 March as investigations continue.
The case is tied to a broader police operation targeting a robbery and car-snatching network.
Earlier this month, two key suspects – Kojo Amposah and Emmanuel Kwame Appiah – were also remanded by the same court on robbery charges and are expected back in court on 26 March.
Police said another suspect, Bashiru Tanko, remains in custody and is being investigated for multiple offences, including carjacking and robbery.
According to the Ghana Police Service, the arrests follow intelligence-led operations that dismantled a syndicate believed to have operated across the Ashanti Region and parts of Tarkwa.
The investigation stems from a fatal robbery on 10 February at Ohwim Amanfrom, where a Toyota Hilux vehicle was stolen from its owner, Andrews Amankwaa, who later died in hospital from gunshot wounds sustained during the attack.
Amankwaa was the father-in-law of Sammy Gyamfi, the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board (GOLDBOD).
Police say investigations are ongoing and more updates will be provided as efforts continue to unravel the full network behind the syndicate.
