Ghana’s economy recorded stronger growth in 2025, with real Gross Domestic Product (GDP) expanding by 6.0%, up slightly from 5.8% in 2024, according to provisional data released by the Ghana Statistical Service.
The data also showed a notable improvement in the final quarter of the year, where GDP grew by 5.8%, compared to 4.0% in the same period in 2024, reflecting renewed economic momentum toward the close of the year.
The expansion was largely driven by non-oil activities, with non-oil GDP growing by 7.1% in the fourth quarter of 2025, up from 4.8% a year earlier. This highlights the increasing importance of domestic sectors outside petroleum in sustaining economic growth.
The services sector remained the dominant force in the economy, expanding by 8.6% during the quarter. It accounted for 50.6% of total GDP and contributed 63.4% of overall growth, reinforcing its position as the backbone of Ghana’s economy.
Agriculture also posted a recovery, growing by 5.3% in the fourth quarter, largely driven by crops, which expanded by 6.6%. Cocoa production rebounded, recording a growth of 3.0% after a sharp contraction of 12.8% in the same period in 2024.
In the industrial sector, growth improved modestly to 1.9%, up from 0.3% a year earlier. However, performance remained weighed down by a contraction in oil and gas production, which declined by 16.8%.
Despite this, gains in other industrial sub-sectors helped cushion the impact. Manufacturing grew by 6.1%, while electricity generation recorded a strong expansion of 12.2%.
The latest figures point to a gradual broadening of Ghana’s economic base, with increasing reliance on services and non-oil sectors, even as volatility in the petroleum industry continues to pose challenges.
