Engineers and Planners Company Limited is expected to assume operational control of the Damang Mine in the Western Region as Gold Fields prepares to exit the site.
The transition follows the expiry of Gold Fields’ mining lease for the Damang concession, with the company expected to hand over the mine to the Government of Ghana on 18 April 2026.
Engineers and Planners (E&P), which has served as a long-term mining contractor at the site, is considered a leading contender to take over operations after the handover.
The Ghanaian firm has worked at the Damang Mine for several years, gaining operational knowledge of the mine’s geological structure, production systems, and workforce operations.
Sources familiar with the process say the company began engaging with Gold Fields over the future of the mine as far back as 2022, well before the multinational announced plans to wind down operations.
In November 2025, Gold Fields acknowledged the Ghanaian contractor’s operational capacity in a letter referencing its ability to continue activities at the site following the company’s exit.
The transition process is being monitored by the Minerals Commission and other regulatory institutions to ensure compliance with Ghana’s mining regulations.
Gold Fields has held the Damang mining lease for about three decades and had initially sought an extension before the current transition arrangement was initiated.
The Damang Mine remains one of Ghana’s major gold-producing assets in the Western Region.
