The Koforidua High Court in the Eastern Region has ordered that a pregnancy test be conducted on 25-year-old Vera Asare before sentencing her for an acid attack that led to the death of her boyfriend, Daniel Omane.
Vera Asare was convicted for attacking Daniel Omane a mobile phone dealer popularly known as Anelka with acid on 29 November 2024, in Koforidua.
She reportedly accused him of cheating.
Following the attack, Daniel Omane was admitted to the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, where he battled severe injuries for several months.
He eventually succumbed to his injuries on 25 July 2025.
He has since been buried. The couple shared a three-year-old child.
During proceedings on Monday morning, tensions escalated in court as members of the deceased’s family reacted angrily to the judge’s decision to defer sentencing pending the results of the pregnancy test.
The case has drawn significant public attention due to the tragic circumstances and the court’s unusual procedural order ahead of sentencing.
