Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has proposed a gradual, sector-by-sector expansion strategy for Ghana’s industrialisation rather than the government’s plan to establish new authorities and industrial parks under the 24-hour economy framework.
The MP warned that creating fresh bureaucracies could slow delivery within the government’s four-year mandate.
Drawing from past experience, he said setting up new institutions often leads to administrative delays rather than results.
“By the time the authority finishes recruitment and procedures, you’re already close to the next election,” he noted on the Asaase Breakfast Show on Tuesday (24 February).
Instead, he recommended supporting existing industries to scale up through better market access, lower costs and financing support.
“What works more is the incrementalist approach,” he said. “Assist industries already operating to expand and reach larger markets.”
He added that strengthening current sectors would deepen expertise and create jobs faster than attempting large-scale structural overhauls.
Oppong Nkrumah said the Minority will continue to demand performance tracking and transparency once the 24-Hour Economy Authority begins operations.
