President John Dramani Mahama has appointed Aaron Kanor as acting commissioner of the Customs Division, the Ghana Revenue Authority said on Monday, as the government moves to tighten border controls and improve trade facilitation.
The appointment, which takes immediate effect, the authority said in a statement on Monday (23 February).
Kanor, a career customs officer with more than 30 years’ experience, most recently served as officer in charge of port operations, overseeing enforcement of customs laws, revenue collection and trade facilitation.
He has previously held senior roles including sector commander at Kotoka International Airport and Wa Collections, and chief revenue officer in multiple operational areas.
The revenue authority said Kanor led intelligence-driven operations that curtailed smuggling, exposed invoice falsification and disrupted criminal networks involved in vehicle identification fraud, contributing to stronger revenue performance and national security.
Kanor has also been involved in modernisation efforts within the Customs Division, including electronic valuation systems and projects aimed at reducing cargo clearance times, aligning Ghana’s customs administration with international best practices, the statement added.
He replaces Glover Ashong Annan, who served as commissioner of customs.
