Ghanata SHS bursar arrested for alleged food theft

A senior high school bursar in the Greater Accra Region has been arrested for allegedly diverting food supplies meant for students, in a case that has triggered concern over accountability in public education institutions.

The Regional Minister and Member of Parliament for Shai-Osudoku, Linda Ocloo, confirmed the arrest of Lamisi Sarah, bursar of Ghanata Senior High School, after what he described as a discreet investigation conducted with support from the National Security apparatus.

“I confirmed the activity and the suspect was apprehended in the act,” Ocloo said in a statement. “I directed the officers to hand her over to the police so that due process can take its full course under the law.”

The minister said credible reports in recent weeks had raised red flags about possible misappropriation of food provisions allocated to the school.

These supplies, he noted, are critical to student welfare and any diversion represents a betrayal of public trust.

“This incident is deeply troubling. Acts of this nature undermine public confidence in our institutions and directly affect the well-being of students placed under our care,” she said.

The Regional Minister pledged that the investigation will be handled with transparency and that anyone found culpable would face the full rigour of the law.
