The Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) has paid cocoa farmers GHC237 million for 50,000 metric tonnes of cocoa, the Board’s Head of Public Affairs, Jerome Kwaku Sam, has announced.
The announcement contained ina Facebook post on 18 February 2026, read, “I’m happy to report COCOBOD has started payment of the 50,000 metric tonnes. An amount of GHC237 million has been paid.”
The payment comes amid complaints of delayed earnings by farmers and follows recent sector reforms introduced by the government.
These include a reduction in the producer price for the remainder of the 2025/2026 crop season, now set at GHC41,392 per tonne (GHC2,587 per bag), aimed at cushioning farmers against falling global cocoa prices.
COCOBOD has also announced salary reductions for executives and senior staff — 20% for executive management and 10% for senior staff — effective immediately and lasting for the rest of the crop year.
The move is expected to save the Board an estimated GHC5 million monthly and help address liquidity challenges in the sector.
