Residents of Obuasi and surrounding communities in the Ashanti region are facing water shortages after Ghana Water Ltd temporarily shut down its Odaso Water Treatment Plant due to a power failure.
The shutdown took effect on Saturday at about 10:00 a.m. following a faulty transformer at Sewhi Asarenso, which supplies electricity to the facility, the state-owned utility said in a statement.
Engineers from the Electricity Company of Ghana are working to repair the fault and restore power to allow operations at the plant to resume, the company added.
Communities affected include Bidieso, Nyameso, Brahabebome, Kokoteasua, Abompekrom, Boete, Akaporiso, Tutuka, Anyinam and nearby areas.
Ghana Water Ltd apologised for the disruption and said water supply would be restored immediately power is reinstated and production resumes.
