One person has died while 16 others are in a critical condition, following a road accident at Peki Tsame near Mawutor Inn on the Peki–Asikuma highway.
The incident occurred after a Toyota Hiace bus with registration number GT 7012-24 reportedly suffered a tyre burst hence resulting to somersaulting.
In a Facebook post on Friday, 13 February, the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) said personnel from the Peki Fire Station, led by ADO I Godwin Gbedemah, swiftly responded to the scene and rescued the trapped victims.
The injured passengers, made up of eight males, seven females and one child, were handed over to the National Ambulance Service and transported to the Peki Government Hospital for treatment.
The GNFS revealed that one of the victims later died at the hospital, while the remaining casualties are reported to be responding to treatment.
Meanwhile, drivers are urged to prioritise regular car maintenance and to reduce speed especially on the main highways.
