At least three people have reportedly been burnt beyond recognition following a devastating fuel tanker accident in the early hours of Saturday, 14 February, along the busy Nsawam–Accra highway.
Preliminary reports indicate that the tanker was involved in a collision, which triggered a massive blaze upon impact.
The intense fire is said to have engulfed approximately five vehicles and five motorbikes at the scene.
Thick plumes of smoke billowed into the sky, causing panic among motorists and nearby residents as the fire rapidly spread across the stretch of road.
Personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) responded swiftly and are working to contain the flames and prevent further destruction.
Firefighters are also ensuring the area is secured as recovery operations continue.
The incident has caused significant traffic congestion along the highway, a major route connecting Nsawam to Accra. Motorists are being urged to exercise extreme caution when approaching the area.
