Eastern Region: Thirteen Nigerians arrested in Koforidua over alleged prostitution ring

The New Juaben South Police Command has arrested thirteen Nigerian nationals in Koforidua in the Eastern Region for their alleged involvement in prostitution activities.

The arrests followed a complaint by a 30-year-old Nigerian woman, Stella Goodwill, who told police she was trafficked from Nigeria to Ghana to engage in commercial sex work.

Briefing the media, the District Police Commander, Superintendent Ransford Nsiah, said the victim was allegedly required to meet a daily sales target of GH¢450.

However, she was unable to meet the target due to low patronage.

Police say her explanation was rejected by her alleged mistress and the mistress’s boyfriend, identified as Simeon Kwarteng, who is accused of physically assaulting her.

Following the complaint, police commenced investigations and proceeded to Dabiasem, a suburb of Koforidua, where one Christabel Simons was arrested.

Superintendent Nsiah said further investigations led police to a brothel facility allegedly operated by Omari Gyamfi, where twelve additional Nigerian females, including a 15-year-old minor, were found residing.

He warned individuals involved in operating brothel systems to desist from the illegal practice, adding that police have intensified operations to clamp down on prostitution and related crimes in the municipality and the region at large.

“Prostitution is on the increase in the municipality and the region, and anyone involved in the act should put a stop to it,” he stated.

The suspects are currently in the custody of the New Juaben South Police Command and will be processed for court.
