The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has appointed former lawmaker and minister Inusah Fuseini to replace Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga on the committee probing alleged vote-buying during the Ayawaso East parliamentary primaries.
The move comes after Ayariga stepped down from the investigative committee following a directive by the party’s Majority Caucus, which had called for the annulment of the primary and disqualification of any candidates found to have engaged in unethical conduct.
NDC General Secretary Fifi Kwetey said in a statement that the party remains committed to upholding the highest integrity in its internal electoral processes.
The Ayawaso East seat, in the Greater Accra Region, fell vacant following the death of MP Naser Toure, prompting the 7 February party primaries. The primaries drew widespread attention after allegations emerged that some candidates had offered inducements to delegates, sparking public and party concern.
The NDC Majority Caucus condemned the vote-buying claims and demanded immediate annulment of the primary, emphasizing the need to restore integrity in party politics.
The newly constituted investigative committee is expected to review all complaints and make recommendations by 10 February.
