Yang Yang, CEO and Founder of Zonda Tec Ghana Limited, has shared her remarkable journey of building a thriving automotive and machinery business in Ghana, emphasising the importance of entrepreneurship, skills transfer, and women’s empowerment in driving Africa’s economic growth.
Speaking during the 2026 Africa Prosperity Dialogues (APD) held at the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC) on Thursday, 5th February, 2026, Yang recounted her early struggles, noting that she started Zonda 16 years ago as a small trading company while pregnant and determined to carve out a future for herself. “When I first started, nobody took me seriously. Today, Zonda has 11 branches in Ghana and operations across Cote d’Ivoire, Guinea, Mali, and Burkina Faso,” she said.
Yang highlighted how she leveraged social media platforms like TikTok to promote Zonda’s range of SUVs, electric vehicles, trucks, and construction machinery, reaching millions of viewers and cementing her brand in Ghana. Her approach, she said, was rooted in understanding local needs and connecting with both male and female workers to harness Ghanaian talent.
“Our factories not only assemble vehicles and machines, but they also train young Ghanaians, turning schools and university garages into skilled workshops,” Yang explained. She stressed the critical role of skills transfer and local production in supporting Africa’s industrialisation and regional trade.
The entrepreneur, originally from China, challenged African women to embrace entrepreneurship and demand equal access to resources. “Our creativity is transforming the economy. When women rise, we Africanize the workplace and empower the next generation,” she said.
Yang also emphasised regional expansion as essential for scaling businesses and integrating into the African single market. She noted that quality, reliability, and affordability, coupled with local service and talent development, are keys to long-term success.
Yang further called on Ghana’s government to recognise her contributions as a long-term resident and investor, reiterating her commitment to Africa’s growth.
“Africa’s prosperity is not a distant goal. It’s a decision we make every single day in our factories, workshops, and training centers,” she stated further.
