Gabby Otchere-Darko says Africa Law Practice network now spans 11 countries

Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko, founder of Africa Law Practice and Executive Chairman of the Africa Prosperity Network (APN), says his legal services group has expanded across the continent with offices or partnerships in 11 African countries as part of a strategy to build cross-border legal capacity.

Speaking on The Upside Down programme on Channel One TV on Sunday (1 February), Otchere-Darko said the firm, established about a decade ago with his wife, has evolved from a Ghana-based corporate practice into a multi-jurisdictional network operating under Africa Law Practice International.

“We are a corporate law firm and since then we’ve been able to team up with some of the partners in Nigeria and set up other law firms across the continent,” he said.

He listed Ghana, Nigeria, Côte d’Ivoire, Namibia, Tanzania, Uganda, Kenya, South Sudan, Rwanda and Angola among the countries where the group has established offices or partnerships, with plans underway to expand into Zambia. The network also maintains a representative office in Guyana in the Caribbean.

According to him, the model allows lawyers with specialised expertise to move across jurisdictions to support complex transactions, particularly in sectors such as oil and gas.

“We are establishing some sort of ecosystem where, for instance, an expert in oil and gas in Nigeria can move to Namibia when there’s a case and they are lacking that expertise,” he explained.

Otchere-Darko said technology has reduced the need for constant travel but stressed that physical collaboration and mobility remain critical for building an integrated African legal market.
