The GIMPA Chapter of the Tertiary Students Confederacy (TESCON) has congratulated Dr Mahamudu Bawumia following his election as the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), describing his victory as a strong endorsement of his leadership and vision for the country.
In a statement issued on 31 January 2026, the student wing said Dr Bawumia’s emergence reflects the “deep confidence” party delegates have in his ability to steer both the NPP and Ghana toward progress and innovation.
The group characterised his win as a “testament to visionary leadership”, citing his record of promoting digitalisation, economic reforms and inclusive development.
TESCON GIMPA said it was inspired by what it called the Vice President’s “consistent commitment to innovation, progress and service”, adding that these qualities had been central to his successful bid to lead the party into the next general elections.
The chapter also pledged to play an active role in the party’s campaign efforts.
“As the party prepares for the national campaign, we reaffirm our loyalty and readiness to mobilise,” the statement said, noting that members were prepared to contribute their “energy and ideas toward a national victory”.
The group added that it remains committed to supporting the NPP’s development agenda and prayed for “God’s guidance and strength” for the flagbearer.
The message was jointly signed by the chapter’s leadership, including President Bernard Asante, Vice President Stephen Darko, Secretary Florence Yirenkyi, Treasurer Barbara Frimpomaa, Women’s Commissioner Elizabeth Adai Torgbor and Organizer Daniel Bentum Hanson.
TESCON, the student wing of the NPP across tertiary institutions, is considered a key grassroots mobilisation arm for the party. The endorsement from the GIMPA chapter — one of the country’s prominent policy and governance-focused institutions — signals early youth backing for Dr Bawumia as he seeks to consolidate support ahead of the 2026 general elections.
